Joy Unspeakable!
I listened to a speaker once who talk about happiness and how to be happy. One of the things he mentioned was the exercise of writing down 3 things each day that you are grateful for. He had a list of some other simple exercises, but basically it amounted to giving to others and being grateful for what you currently have and reflecting on that daily.
In America you would think with all of our prosperity and opportunity that would not even be an issue, but for many it is. What I am seeing overseas is that happiness is not contingent on "things" and that prosperity can rob you of your appreciation for things big or small, IF your happiness is based on "things", jobs, homes, awards, etc.
Having lived in a rural resort area of South India, I was surprised at how happy the people were there! They come from all over India to the mountains there and ride bikes around a lake that is almost dried up because of a lack of water, bikes that are taped together, the place is dirty by my standards, yet everyone is happy, grateful, and having a blast! It is as if they do not know their condition? Hmmm...Maybe it is my condition that needs fixing and not theirs?
If we look at scripture we can see that ALL of God's children have reason for hope and happiness, IF our trust is in him and not our external condition. Where does your hope and happiness come from?
Whom shall I fear, the Lord thy God is with me. "Yeah though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me, thy rod and staff they comfort me". Psalm 23:4 Joy unspeakable!
"I lift up my eyes to the hills–where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip–he who watches over you will not slumber;
Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you–the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm–he will watch over your life;
The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore". Psalm 121
We all have much to be grateful for! I trust you are not blinded by too much so that you can appreciate what you have is all a gift from God! Blessings to each of you....

Being Content and Abound
The book of Psalms is great for encouragement. During times of uncertainty we read and are encouraged in our walk to keep the faith, to press on even when we do not have the answers or know the way. God promises to always be with us and to guide us. Psalm 63:8 " My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me." When we are totally dependent on God for our every need, there is no need to question or doubt. Faith is real because it is proven daily for our edification, whether in lack or abundance.
Living in India, demonstrated this best to me. The young kids pictured here saw me one day and started running to catch up with me as I took my usual walk around the lake before heading home. They were so excited because they each had a piece of fried corn fritter of sorts, they were given by a local vendor and were happily munching on it. They were all smiles with their bare feet and dirty clothes, happy to show me their "catch"!
As we continued down the street together towards our homes, they chattered happily though what they were saying I do not know, but there was no disguising the fact that they were happy! As we went to cross the busy street, the boy with the baby in his arms, motions for me to come, come. Here I was thinking I was helping them and it was quite the opposite.
Shortly after they waved and said bye, they descended the bank off the main street to their grass hut and thatched roof by the stream. No beds, dirt floors, outdoor fires for cooking and heat. They had many reasons in my opinion to be upset or angry at life, instead they were grateful for the little things, daily substance, small miracles with grateful hearts!
My reflection was and still is am I grateful, humble and loving to a God that supplies all of my needs, or am I arrogant, demanding and unappreciative for his many blessings and daily provisions thinking pridefully that it is my own efforts and hard work that sustains me?
Where is my home, food, clothes and family? Am I doing without? Do I not have many reasons to be grateful? Thought provoking questions for us all.
My prayer continues," Lord help me be as appreciative as these kids in India were, at the very least, and reflect to those around me each day your love through me", in Jesus name.

Whatever Your Will...
Are you in s state of flux, knowing change is in the air, but not sure why or where to go? Listening to that "still small voice" for me comes in the form of a prayer that says, "Lord open and close the doors where you'd have me go". Now in that moment I am trying all doors presented, but praying equally as hard, Lord don't let me open a door that is not right for me. Now that would mean not only for me, but for others, for I have learned that God uses us for the good of the whole, never wasting anything.
He has the global view and gets the most bang for the buck, so to speak. So when I think to go right he says left, because there is someone who needs me to the left, or that I need. Can I trust him enough to let go and go where it does not make sense in the natural?
I have often referred to walking in the dark, on my journey with God, as there are many times more often than not that I do not know where I am going, but I am trusting him to enlighten my "steps".
Yes steps.... I cannot say I am always excited about the not knowing, but there is an excitement in knowing his provision is and always has been better than anything I could dream for myself, and that is where the excitement and wonder of life is!
As I am preparing for my next journey into the unknown, whether here or abroad, I continue to look behind as a reminder of where God has taken me and his daily provisions for me now, with a confidence that he will continue to see me through whatever lies ahead.

No Man Is An Island!
It has been a privilege to walk alongside a small private Christian school this year upon my return to the U.S. and offer my assistance in my area of expertise, but what I want to leave with those who have chosen this path, is some encouragement to stay the course.
Most parents, if you are like I was, have to sacrifice to send your child to a private school. Whether it is money, time or all the above, it requires taking the road less traveled and making a determination about what is best for your child. I am here to tell you there is no greater sacrifice you can give your child, than to have them educated in a God loving way.
I have taught at many schools in the states and recently overseas. Large, small, public, charter, private, Christian and non-Christian. What I have taken away is an appreciation for integrity in the school and doing what is right for the student, period. I have seen that best in Christian schools and teachers I commend you for choosing to work within a school that stands for Christ, and allows you to share and model that behavior to your prodigies, as you teach them academic skills.
You see parents, your kids will become adults that reflect what is taught to them more in deed than in word. When your child's teacher is patient, loving, respectful and kind, they are teaching your child to be the same. What your child learns best is what they see modeled to them everyday. Prayer, humility, respect to God and each other.
I am here to encourage parents and teachers to keep making the sacrifice. There is no car, nor house, clothes, vacations or other pleasures that can replace the investment you are making in your child, and others, to assure not only their success in life now, but life in heaven which is eternal! Proverbs Chapter 22 reminds us to “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Teachers, administrators, and support staff who have chosen this road, keep up the good work! You are doing an awesome job, and based on my experience and observations, you are making a difference in each child’s life through your daily sacrifice to work for less earthly compensation, storing up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust does not destroy. Matthew 6:20.
So keep the faith, it is when you are hardest hit that you must not quit!

In The World...
Even as Christians it is easy to get caught up in this world, striving for "success" and miss the mark of our high calling in life, which is to spread God's love each day to those around us. Daily reflecting and thinking about where we are going and what we are doing takes deliberate thought and action, kinda like swimming upstream. We cannot just float, or we will be swept downstream in the currents of life without even realizing it.
Having traveled overseas, it seems easier to see a bigger view of all the material stuff that we as Americans have, even when we think we do not have much! We are inundated daily by our surroundings to want more, and to pile up for ourselves instead of storing up treasures in heaven.
In Matthew 6:20 the scripture admonishes those who trust in earthly gain and encourages us instead to store up treasuries in heaven. Then Jesus adds: "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." http://bible.cc/matthew/6-19.htm
Isaiah 55:6-9 also speaks of God's ways being higher than our ways, saying his thoughts are higher than our thoughts. In humility and humbleness let us serve the Lord. As a child is to a parent, trusting, though rarely understanding, help us to follow God's commandments and look to him the author and finisher of our faith. Ultimately he will judge us all for everything we have done, said, thought or whispered. He sees our heart and knows our thoughts. He alone is the only one we will have to answer too.
Our prayer each day, that can help us keep the course in this fast running stream of life, is also what he also taught his disciples, "Our Father which art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power forever." Amen.....

I Am With You Always!
While in India it was common for me to run into the "street kids" while walking around the lake. On one particular day they ran up to me to see if I have any money and to say hi. They has just scored by getting some food from a local vendor and they were happily chewing on the pineapple pieces they were given.
I had just been to the bank so I pulled out my money to give to each of them. One of my favorite ones pointed to her face indicating that something hurt and I gave a sad face in return, but said it would be fine. She then asked for a kiss on the cheek and gave me one in return. Before I left though she pointed to my bag. I looked and noticed she was wanting my water that I was carrying. Gladly I gave it to her and cheerfully they left, waving goodbye.
On reflection I thought about how confident those "street children" were in my willingness to give whatever I had. They had accepted my love unconditionally, without real words being shared.
That brings me to our God. Do we have that same confidence in his willingness and desire to help us? We all know the scriptures say we being evil know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more does our Heavenly Father love us and desire to give us good gifts? The question is, do we ask and really believe that he will?
Faith as a child. It really is too simple. Christ says we have not because we ask not. Are you needing help, healing, food, water, protection, salvation? Is there any reason why we would not ask and expect like this "street child" did with me? Could we be so bold to ask and expect, from our Heavenly Father?
Below is song that reminds me of God's promise to his children. When others have let us down and we cannot make it on our own, God promises to be there. The question then is are you asking and believing?

Adversity
Have you ever been in hardships and wondered why? You thought you were doing everything right yet you are being attacked for seemingly no reason? Well if so, you are not alone. God's word gives us guidance during those times of persecution to encourage and strengthen us, so that we do not lose hope or confidence during our toughest battles.
Matthew Ch.5, vs 43-48. It states that we are his children and that we should love our enemies, bless those who curse us and do good to them that hate us, and last but not least, to pray for those who use and persecute us. He goes on to say that in doing so, we are children of our Father in heaven, for he makes the sun to rise on the evil and on the good. He sends rain on the just and unjust..... Hard words to swallow, but yet that is what he calls us to do.

I have often thought I deserved a fast pass from hardships, after all I am God's child right? Life and the scriptures beg to differ with my naive view. He does promise to be with us and greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world, but how we react to hardships often times will define us and the world in which we live.
Thought provoking question today. What would our enemies say about us today as individuals, or even as a country?

The Finish Line
As I approach the end of my time here in India I am struck with a sense of urgency to finish what I have started and leave behind things to continue on in my absence. As I reflect on scripture, is that not what Jesus asks us to do as well? Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2. fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.…
His mission was marked by service to others, that resulted in his death for our sins. He calls us to follow in his footsteps and do like he did. Are we called to die? Maybe not in the physical sense though I understand for some in other countries they are, but what about to the carnal man, with all of our lusts and desires? Are our eyes on Jesus, is our dependence on him, or the things of this world?
I have heard similar messages through the years, but I think I now have a deeper understanding of how hard it is for the western world to see Jesus. We have so many distractions and so much abundance that it is easy to see how we could lose our focus and dependence on God.
I look around here and see an old lady asking for food and I know that if I say no she will go hungry another day. Many buses and cars have the people's faith written on their windshields with bold proclamations of their belief. Daily life is a constant reminder of their dependence and belief on God. It is also understandable that they would fall victim to false gods as they seek relief and help that is beyond their capabilities. We are so blessed in the U.S., but are we using what we have to be God's hands and feet, or are we piling up treasures on earth?
I am grateful to be returning to the states, with a chance to relax and recharge. What tomorrow holds no one knows, but I pray we all know who holds our hands and share Christ's love to all we meet, ultimately storing up treasure in heaven. Blessings to each of you on your journey today....

God Is Watching Us.....
Times of change can be stressful. As I look to find acceptable flights back to the U.S. that allows my cat onboard with us, I find myself saying Lord help me. I am reminded of our journey here though, and I am encouraged to keep looking despite the shut doors along the way.
Where we live in India, is a hard place to travel from and add a cat to the mix and you can only imagine! With God though, all things are possible. As I continued my search with prayer, the right mix of cat traveling onboard, time, price, departure city etc. the right flight did open up for us and now we are booked to New York to visit family there first, before traveling into the "Big Easy". All of this for less than what I would have paid to go straight through. Yeah, God is watching us and directing our footsteps.
On our worst day it is still the best when it is with God. Remember the scriptures if ever in doubt. He will never allow more than we can bear. He is watching out for us and I know when Satan takes his hits that God is there with us, speaking to us saying, do not take that, hit him with my word. A right jab here, now there, he is there with you in the corner, cleaning us up and saying come on, the victory is yours, do not give up!
I have found that is where reading the bible and having a personal relationship with God is so helpful! Ephesians CH. 6 vs. 10-24. "Be strong in the Lord".... I know His promises, I know what His word says about my protection and He is always there with the faintest whisper of a prayer, always!

I am not sure what you all are going through personally, but I am here to encourage you to keep going. Keep in God's word and pray. Stand strong, because the days we are in are evil. Ephesians Ch. 5 vs.16. We are fighting not only for ourselves, but our families and friends. Psalm Ch 27- 29 are awesome scriptures when going through battles to keep us encouraged. Ch.28 vs. 7-9. says."The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped, therefore my heart greatly rejoices and with my song I will praise Him. The Lord is their strength, and He is the saving strength of His anointed. Save thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up forever."

Walking By Faith
In the book of Matthew chapter 6 we are instructed how to pray. We have all read and said the "Lord's Prayer" a million times, yet what jumps out to me as we are faced with uncertain times is that Jesus admonishes those who worry about tomorrow. His prayer tells us to pray for "daily" bread. If you are like me, I have yet to go hungry or to see my kid begging for bread, yet fear is a result of a lack of faith that is often about tomorrow, the unseen.
In Matthew Jesus goes on to compare us to the fowls of the air, the lilies of the field, the grass and yet concludes that we are of so much more value than these! Will he not take care of us his children?
With admonishment he also gives instruction. Ch. 6:33-34. " Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for tomorrow, for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is evil thereof."
The bible says without faith we cannot please God. With that in mind may we learn to walk by faith, trusting in God's sovereignty for all of our days......Listen and be encouraged today.

Today's Thought.....
"He is the Potter, I am the Clay"
I like the song with the refrain of, "Let it be said of me, my source of strength, my source of hope is Christ the Lord". A daily diet of good food and exercise leads to a healthy body. That same discipline in reading the bible and praying daily for God's will to be done, reflects a strong spiritual life. A phrase I have often repeated to my students and my daughter is "You become what you say and you are what you think. Think and say great things about yourself and others". Simple yet true, because our actions follow our thoughts. What are we thinking about today, or saying about others? Do those words and thoughts build us up and others around us? Are we encouraged to make the best choices and become the best we can be because of those words and thoughts, or do they discourage us and others to give up?
Make no mistake about it, ANYTHING worth achieving is hard! It takes work, discipline, determination and a willingness to take the road less traveled. Also a good book. Many non-Christians understand this basic principal and apply it in the secular world. My encouragement to my fellow Christians is to look to God as the source of your strength, and feast daily on his word for his guidance and direction with hope for a more lasting success than what this world has to offer.
If I want to be strong in Christ and know the plans he has for me, I need to have a personal relationship with him that is formed by discipline to read his word and to pray for his guidance daily, allowing him to shape me. There is no short cut to forming a healthy body, or becoming a strong Christian. It takes discipline and a daily walk of good nourishment to get there. We are all doing something and we are all becoming that something or someone. Is that something who or where we want to be today?

Let me conclude with this pondering thought and question. Who would my child, my neighbor, my husband, my friends or my colleagues say is my potter today? The world, myself or God.

You Make Me Happy....
The above lyric runs through my head. My thought is yes Lord, you do make me happy! As part of the song goes," I wish the whole world knew you too. I cannot count the ways you have made my life so blessed, all I know is that you came and made beauty of my mess."
I am so grateful for all the many blessing he has so graciously bestowed on me, my family and friends. A good nights rest, favor and protection for today. Loved ones all around, health, warmer weather, another hour of daylight, spring flowers. So...... much to be grateful for. We are all so truly blessed!
Proverbs Ch. 3 is an incredible chapter with hope for us all. As we dive into his word today may he continue to speak to each of our hearts afresh and new as upcoming Spring is, each new day. Blessings to each of you.....

My Chains Are Gone...
As Christians we are afforded Christ's unending love, mercy and grace. We know what happens at the end of our time and there is no fear for those who trust in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy vs. 7 " For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind." Let us walk confidently lifting each other up in word and deed as Christ taught us to do.
My heart goes out to the families on Malaysia Airlines. As I currently live in these parts and have family and students traveling these same airways, it is a reality check for me knowing it could have been us or our loved ones.
I pray the loved ones on the plane were ready to meet Christ and may it be a gentle reminder to us all that today is a gift from God. May we use our time wisely with no regrets, not knowing when that final day will come for any of us. May God's peace that passes understanding comfort loved ones in their time of personal loss.

You Can Trust God
All creation sing glory to the king of kings, for you are holy. Do we really believe that? I know it is hard for me to understand, but believing is about faith, not knowing or understanding, but trusting in the unseen. Look at nature, the birds, the plants, weather, everything around us. Can we really look at these things and come away with anything less than a belief in a God that is holy, awesome, incredible!
When we trust him with our lives, and let go of the reins, he will become real to you in a way that passes understanding. Peace that transcends circumstances, blessing, honor and favor that only comes from him. We have no other response, but to proclaim he is holy!
Lord help us today to trust you more, allowing you to be Lord of our lives in every aspect. We have no reason to fear, for greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world. When people persecute you they are taking on God, heaven help them. Do not mess with a momma bear and her cubs! God is that protective of us and he will provide a way where there seems to be none. Relax and trust him today with your all, for he alone is holy, the author and finisher of our faith.

Unto Thee Oh Lord.....
Psalms 86:4 "Unto thee O Lord, do I lift up my soul. Vs.11 Teach me thy way O Lord, I will walk in thy truth. Vs. 17 "Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it and be ashamed, because thou oh Lord hast holden me and comforted me".
I dare say there is not one among us that has not been treated unfairly at one time or another. I look to these scriptures and others and find encouragement for those times of oppression, difficulties and unfairness we suffer in this world. God calls us to a higher standard, though our initial reaction is to strike back. When Christ was persecuted he took it silently, he turned the other cheek. That is a great example of how we are to handle our own persecutions, though if you are like me it comes with prayer, because that is not my gut reaction in the natural.
When faced with tough spots I have learned to say Lord help me very quickly, because without his help I am not going to speak as he would have me. I am pleased to say he is always there. My job is to let it go and leave it at his feet and let him handle it, period. Easier said then done in the carnal, but with God all things are possible!
A chorus that goes with this scripture is: "Unto Thee oh Lord, Do I lift up my soul, Oh my God I trust in thee, let me not be ashamed let not my enemies triumph over me". May this be our song and prayer each day as we walk the path that we are called to walk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYc1sLnsHLY&feature=kp

Love So Amazing!
John 3:16 we all know by heart. "For God so loved the world"........
Matthew Ch.9 vs 13 "I will have mercy and not sacrifice; for I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance". Matthew Ch. 18 vs. 11. "For the Son of man has come to save that which was lost". He goes on to compare His mission to that of a shepherd with a lost sheep, how that if he had 100 and one got lost how he would leave the 99 to go find the one that went astray. He then says that the rejoicing would be greater over finding the one lost than the other 99 that did not go astray. Luke Ch.9 vs. 56, "For the son of man has NOT come to destroy men's lives, but to save them." He goes on to use another metaphor of sparrows and also says the very hairs of our head are numbered in CH. 12 vs 6-8.
God's love is indeed amazing.... My prayer today is, Lord help me to show that amazing love you have so graciously shown to me, to those that are lost around me, so that they might also experience your amazing love in their lives. For it is in Jesus name I pray. Amen.....

Amazing Love!
God's love is indeed amazing. I am so grateful we have him to look too in troubled times and in good times to say thank you so...... much! We are so blessed to be God's children and afforded the ultimate promise of divine protection and deliverance, Wow!
I have a very close friend who though doesn't share my faith at the same level as me has said on numerous occasions that I just cannot lose, because I trust God to work things out for my good, and if it is not the way I have planned then I trust there is something better in store for me. God loves us and is working ALL things for our good. That my friend is AMAZING love!
Learning to look to God in all circumstances is training the heart and mind, recognizing that we do not always know what is best for us, but ultimately God does. So let go and let him take control of our next step, and know that we serve a loving God that knows our every need even BEFORE we ask.

Lord I Give You My Heart!
As I awake this morning the chorus to this song is on my heart. I give you my heart, I give you my soul, Lord have your way with me. Every step that I take every move that I make Lord have your way with me.
Total surrender to God's ways. Not my will, but yours be done. A freeing way to live by letting go of preconceived outcomes, willing, open, flexible and adaptable. As I write these adjectives they also remind me of some of the adds posted for international schools. Now on the heels of finishing my second year abroad I better understand what that really means!:-) However, with God it is totally different. He loves us more than we can imagine and is working all things to our good!
When we understand God has a divine plan for our lives and that he made us for a purpose, why would we not ask him to show us the way? We can struggle, get lost, discouraged, get in trouble, all while he is there waiting, watching, willing to help. Loving us with an open hand, just waiting for us to ask, surrender. Are we asking, are we willing to trust him? What would our actions say about our beliefs?
Once we understand that God is on our side, that he loves us more than we can imagine and he is the Creator of the universe, why would we not ask?
As children of God we have the privilege of a relationship with the Creator of the world. We are blessed, forgiven, protected, encouraged and free to live a life that is holy without spot or blemish because he loves us! That my friends should melt our hearts! How can we not love God, when he first loved us and is willing to show us daily just how much, if we ask him. Total surrender to our Creator.....

God is So Good!
A familiar song verse, "Through it all I have learned to trust in Jesus, I have learned to trust in God. Through it all, I have learned to depend upon his word." I have learned in good times and bad that God is there for his children. I have learned to listen to the still small voice for divine guidance and direction that his word says that IF we follow his commandments then we have access to the promises that are in his word. So even when bad times come, if we know we are doing what is right by his spirit that is within us, then we can trust God to see us through. Pay close attention to the word "through". His word does not say over, under or around, but he does promise to never leave or forsake us.
I did not get to where I am today on my own and I will not stand on my own and I am glad we do not have too. God is working all things for our good and we can rest in his promises of protection and provision as his children.
Are you struggling today and losing hope or wondering why? My encouragement to you today is to hold on and trust in GOD. He loves you more than you can imagine!

I Exalt Thee, Oh Lord!
While waiting we are called to praise his holy name. Is there uncertainty in your future? Are you anxious about your next step. Have you prayed and yet you are in the fire? If you are like me the answer is yes to all the above!
As we continue in our daily walk may we be reminded to rest, relax and let God be our guide. Learning to listen to his still small voice and then act on his prompting. Depend upon his word and promises to see us through, with a conscience decision to relax and not be anxious. A deliberate, focused determination to read his word and trust in his promises as we start each new day.
When teaching students I encourage them to make healthy daily habits that are to be done everyday, not just when they feel like them, so that they can become healthy adults. How much more does that apply to our spiritual life? Daily steps and choices that reinforce our positive choices, allow us to keep the course even during times of uncertainty. It is in the daily discipline of self, that allows us to grow stronger physically, emotionally and most certainly spiritually.
Are you filled with despair, uncertainty and anxiety? Rest assured you are not alone, the only thing you have to remember is to turn it over to God and trust that he cares for you. Be encouraged in reading his word daily and let him speak to your heart in a personal way that only he can do. And last but not least, praise him for all of his many benefits. I exalt thee oh God! How Great The Father's Love For Us!
We often have a hard time understanding God's love for us, and sometimes think he's only there periodically. As we grow stronger in our walk with Christ through daily reading and prayer we will develop a relationship that is so awesome we will wonder how we ever made it without him! Just as any relationship needs cultivating, our walk with God needs to be the same. Think of it like a parent to a child that is only nice or calls when they want something, hmm....yet that is what we often do to God. He desires to be the one we look too in all situations and contrary to popular belief, he is never too busy or tired.
Some of you may ask how do I know this? Our experience and daily walk with Christ should be our confidence, backed up by his word. The many answered prayers and unexpected favor that is shown to us are constant reminders of his love. Are we looking for his hand and listening to his still small voice?
I am wowed by his ever present provision in my life and my loved ones, through good times and bad. I am indeed humbled that he hears my every prayer, even when it is something as simple as finding my cat, or my way home, he is my closest friend.
I am wowed by his ever present provision in my life and my loved ones, through good times and bad. I am indeed humbled that he hears my every prayer, even when it is something as simple as finding my cat, or my way home, he is my closest friend.
When we develop a strong relationship with God, he is always the first one we turn too in gratitude for all he has given us and he comes first in our lives as we reflect his love to those around us, because it is what is in us. Matthew Ch. 24 vs. 34 " For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Whatever we are filled up with is invariably what comes out, whether it be good or evil."
May we all desire to have that intimate walk with God with a lasting peace and hope that passes all understanding, more than all the temporary dainties this world has to offer.

Grateful Hearts
At the end of the month when funds are low, we are often stretched and stressed when we look to ourselves for all of our needs. As a child, the bible story in Luke of the poor widow who gave 2 mites comes to mind when Jesus said she had given more than all the kings, made an impression on me. God encourages us to be cheerful givers, not building up treasures for ourselves, but trusting him to supply our every need. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and All these things will be added unto you." Matthew 6 vs.33.
As we leave a season of thankfulness and enter a season of giving, I am reminded of the song verse that says, "Give thanks with a grateful heart." Grateful giving is what we are called to do and if we have not, God instructs us to ask, so that our dependence is on him. II Kings, Ch 4-8. Talks about the widow who has no money to pay the debtors and Elisha instructs her to gather vessels to pour her only pot of oil into so that she may then sell the oil and pay her debts.
God is also the supplier of all our needs, yet he says that when we give out of our need and trust him, his heart is touched by our generosity, and his love then shines brightly through all we think, say and do.
God is also the supplier of all our needs, yet he says that when we give out of our need and trust him, his heart is touched by our generosity, and his love then shines brightly through all we think, say and do.
I pray our hearts are like the widow's, not looking to the things of this world, but looking to God the author and finisher of our faith, being a faithful witness in word and deed to those around us.

Our Destiny.....
Forever God is with us, forever and ever and ever....What an awesome thought and promise. Always, even through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for God is with us! Psalm 23. Can we really understand? I think I only have moments of clarity where I go "Wow", but then life comes back to me and I forget and go on about "life". How do I keep that understanding in my everyday choices, attitudes, my walk? Hmm.....much to consider. My quiet moments help.
Thank you Lord for this day, let us rejoice and be glad in it! Learning to be grateful and reflective in the common, ordinary miracles, daily. A spirit of praise and gratitude for ALL he has done. The right and privilege to pray for someone, today. To share my hope and my faith for a better tomorrow to those in my path. Right where I am hmmm.....
This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! I have a role, to be God's light. To be his hands and feet, to meet the needs right where I am. Wow! Yeah, I get it, but then I forget.....
Lord, help me to remember and open my eyes to your will, to those in need, helping me to be used of you today and the next. On purpose, meaningful, reflective and intentional living this moment and the next, in Jesus name I pray.

Here I am to Worship
This morning as I go through my lists of things to do and reflect on where I am and my next journey, I am reminded of my mission to serve God first. I have to be willing to let go of money, family, comforts and position. Then and only then can God use me for his glory. Not my will, but yours be done.....
As we reflect on our jobs as God's servants and our purpose today, this song comes to mind. May God use our gifts and talents for his glory to worship his sovereign presence in our lives. A world version of "Here I am to Worship. " by Michael W. Smith. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_kAjok4-Uk

Keeping Our Eyes On Jesus!
Matthew Ch.7 vs. 15 "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves".
As Jesus instructs his disciples and sends them to the lost as a witness to heaven, he gives them guidelines to follow. One being Matthew, Ch.10 vs.16 "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves." He knows the world in which they are instructed to witness in will have those who are imposters, yet he encourages his disciples and us not to get discouraged, but to keep pressing on and spreading his word, giving hope for this life and our life to come.
In the natural it is easy to get discouraged when we see evil and bad exist in the name of religion, but his word says that we are to keep our eyes on him and not fret, because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
The parable of the seeds is also given saying the sower knows not what will take root, but that we as his disciples are to keep planting seeds with an understanding that there will be good and bad that spring up together, but there will come a day when they will be separated. Luke Ch. 17 vs. 34-36. Talks about two in bed, in the field and working together, yet one is taken and the other is left.
So keep the faith and keep pressing on, for in a day when you know not, the Son of man will return to judge the living and the dead, judging not the outward, but the inward heart of man. Help us to be counted as worthy servants doing the will of the Father that is in heaven.

This Is The Day!
I have started my search for my next teaching post and have had to come up with a list of what is really important in order to get a sense of direction and narrow my search. Is it money, beautiful location, prestige or purpose? A question that helps to center me is, if this was my last post would I have any regrets? As I reflect on that one question my search becomes easier as I set aside the weights that so easily distract me. Hebrews 12:1-2. Therefore, seeing we also are compassed about by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
In the bible it also states that this is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it. My time here is to be used wisely and enjoyed. So the question is what is wisely, what makes me happy? Is it money, relationships, food, family, activities? Obviously the list could go on and on for all of us depending on our current position in life.
For younger people it may be college, careers, marriage, house, car, kids, vacations etc. Where does it all stop? What happens when we achieve all we can, what next? One might say well then I store up plenty and enjoy the rest of my life doing what I want to do. The bible also shares about the gentleman who thought the same and tore down his barns to store his excess. He was called a fool, and told that night his life would end. Ecclesiastes 1-3,Psalm 45,Ephesians 2 NKJV - The Vanity of Life ...
the writer concludes that all of life is vanity. God says that our life is to be enjoyed. To eat, drink and enjoy today, for it is a gift from God.
So where does all of this information leave me on my initial question? How am I spending my time? Is it wisely, am I storing up treasure in heaven where moth and dust does not corrupt? If I gain the whole world and lose my soul, is it for not? At the end of each day can I say I have used it wisely, by sharing God's love with someone else? Today, this moment is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! I think I have my answer. May your day be as reflective and enjoyable.

Going Through The Motions.....
What if?______ We can all fill in the blank with many things. How many of us ask ourselves that question, before it is too late? Are we living to our fullest potential or just going through the motions? Do we have passion, love, hope, excitement for today, tomorrow in what God has planned for us? Great questions to ponder. God's ways are higher than ours, dare we let go of trying to control everything based on our own understanding and let God direct us in the way he desires? When he speaks to our hearts are we willing to go where he wants us too? Do we trust him enough to say yes Lord, wherever you lead I will follow? What dreams has God placed in your heart today? Are you willing to get out of your comfort zone and say, "yes"?
An awesome song by Matthew West. "The Motions"
Choices....
Each day we have choices and based on those choices consequences will follow that leave marks on those we encounter. As Christians we must realize that our daily choices will affect those around us whether for good or bad, we are leaving a mark.
I recently had the privilege of overseeing some college instructors who were just learning to teach. What I found myself sharing with them as they made mistakes, was that the students they were teaching were like fresh play dough. The instructor's words and actions were making an impression on these young kids for better or for worse. Yes they were just teaching a game, but in the process they were impacting them for life about how to be kind, use good language when frustrated, how to persevere, how to win and lose graciously, and to feel good about their efforts.
As Christians we do the same thing in our walk for Christ. We walk daily among those who are less fortunate, need a helping hand, or a kind word. Are we sharing Christ to those in our path with our everyday words and actions?
Lord, open our eyes and help us to see those who are less fortunate and give a helping hand, a kind word to those who are struggling, share the love of Christ with an attitude of gratitude in all we do, leaving good marks on those we meet, for a good testament to Christ who lives in us.
Below are some quotes and sayings I found that are guaranteed to make us reflect on our own choices and what those actions are telling others.....
Quotes:
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word,
a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring,
all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
- Leo Buscaglia.
Do Good Anyway
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind,
People may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful,
You will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank,
People may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend a year building,
Someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness,
They may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today,
People will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have,
And it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis,
It is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
- Mother Teresa.
Certainly clumsy, embarrassing, unprincipled, and mean spirited things
do occur in our interactions with other people that would tempt us to take offense.
However, ultimately it is impossible for another person to offend you or to offend me. Indeed, believing that another person offended us is fundamentally false.
To be offended is a choice we make; it is not a condition inflicted
or imposed upon us by someone or something else.
- David A. Bednar.
Every day I live, I am more convinced that the waste of life lies
in the love we have not given, the powers we have not used,
the selfish prudence that will risk nothing and which,
shirking pain, misses happiness as well.
- Mary Cholmondeley.
If we work upon marble, it will perish.
If we work upon brass, time will erode it.
If we rear temples, they will crumble to dust.
But if we work upon men’s immortal minds, if we imbue them
with high principles, with love of God and love of their fellowmen,
we engrave on those tablets something which no time will erase.
and which will brighten and brighten to all eternity.
- Daniel Webster.
Nobody grows old by
merely living a number of years.
People grow old by deserting their ideals.
You are as young as your faith, and as old as your doubt;
As young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear;
As young as your hope, as old as your despair.
.- Douglas MacArthur.
A great many people think they are thinking
when they are really rearranging their prejudices.
- William James.
We must endure the winter, if we would value spring,
and the forest must be silent, . . . before the robins sing.
Flowers lay in darkness, before they bud & bloom,
and the sweetest rays of sunlight shine
after storm and gloom.
- Anonymous (edited by m.m.).
If you change the way you look at things,
the things you look at . . . change.
- Wayne Dyer.
When you come
to the edge of the Light you've known,
and now, must step into the darkness of unknown,
having faith means one of two things: Within the shadows,
there will be solid ground upon which to stand,
or . . . you will be taught to fly.
- Lorraine Ortner-Blake.
With the strength of human bodies that gradually fall apart,
we diligently endure in life's journey, faithfully pulling handcarts
loaded with personal trials and troubles across a vast prairie of opportunity;
where our loving Lord Jesus is ever willing to walk with us; bear each heavy burden,
till we reach the valley of His promise—forgiven and redeemed.
- Matt Moody .
My experience convinces me that optimism is just another word for amnesia—
no matter how bad my life is, I forget about it when the sun rises and I find myself with another chance! "A certain day became a presence to me; there it was, confronting me:
a sky, air, light—a being. And before it started to descend from the height of noon,
it leaned over & struck my shoulder as if with the flat of a sword, granting
me honor and a task. The day's blow rang out, metallic—
or it was I, a bell awakened, and what I heard
was my whole self saying and singing
what it knew . . . . I can.
.- Denise Levertov.
The only real revolution is in
the enlightenment of the mind
and the improvement of character,
the only real emancipation is individual,
and the only real revolutionaries
are philosophers and saints.
- Durant.
You don't drown by falling into troubled waters; instead,
you drown because you don't know how to swim, or
fail to fully apply the ability to swim. There is
always a way out of turbulent waters:
Find it! Learn it! Apply it!
- Matt Moody .
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. You're playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that
other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest
the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we naturally inspire
others to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear,
our shining presence automatically liberates others.

Excellence versus Winning
If you would hit the mark, you must aim a little above it;
Every arrow that flies feels the attraction of earth.
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
When an archer is shooting for nothing . . . he has all his skill.
If he shoots for a brass buckle . . . he is already nervous.
If he shoots for a prize of gold . . . he goes blind;
or sees two targets . . . he is out of his mind!
His skill has not changed. But the prize . . . divides him. He cares.
He thinks more of winning than of shooting . . .
and the need to win drains him of power.
- Chuang Tzu, 400 B.C..
Trying to do well and trying to beat others are two different things.
Excellence and victory are conceptually distinct . . . and are experienced differently.

There are two ways to live your life.
One as though nothing is a miracle.
The other as though everything is a miracle..

Four People
This is a story about four people named:
Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done
and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, . . . but Nobody did it.
Now Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought Anybody could do it,
but Nobody realized . . . that Everybody wouldn't do it.
In the end, Everybody blamed Somebody
when Nobody did . . . what Anybody could have done.
Tao of Leadership
When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.
When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need..
By yielding, I endure. The empty space is filled.
When I give of myself, I become more.
When I feel most destroyed, I am about to grow.
When I desire nothing, A great deal comes to me.
For Those Who Have Suffered
I asked God for strength, that I might achieve.
I was made weak, . . . that I might learn humility.
I asked for health, that I might do greater things.
I was given infirmity, . . . that I might do better things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy.
I was given poverty, . . . that I might be wise.
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men.
I was given affliction, . . . that I might feel the need for Grace.
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life.
I was given life, . . . that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing I foolishly asked for . . .
but received everything I hoped for.
"For God performeth the thing that is appointed for me,
He hath tried me, and I shall come forth as gold." (Job 23:10,14)
For Those Who have Lost Loved Ones
You can a shed tear that she is gone
or smile that she has lived.
You can close your eyes and curse your emptiness
or open your eyes and be filled with the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and mourn yesterday
or live for tomorrow . . . because of yesterday.
Your heart can feel sad because you're not with her
or feel glad because she is with God.
You can think of her and only that she's gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
- David Harkin.
The Birth Called Death
In a beautiful blue lagoon
on a clear day, a fine sailing-ship
spreads its brilliant white canvas in a fresh morning breeze
and sails out to the open sea. We watch her glide away magnificently
through the deep blue and gradually see her grow smaller and smaller
as she nears the horizon. Finally, where the sea and sky meet,
she slips silently from sight; and someone near me says,
"There, she is gone!" Gone where?
Gone from sight -- that is all.
She is still as large in mast and hull and sail,
still just as able to bear her load. And we can be sure that,
just as we say, "There, she is gone!" another says, "There, she comes!"
- Paul Dunn.
Change
They must often change,
who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.
- Confucius.
Not everything that is faced can be changed,
but nothing can be changed until it is faced.

This Little Light of Mine....
God's word gives us specific instruction about how to live. If you love me keep my commandments. John Ch. 15 vs. 7 "If ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done." As God's children we are called to be his disciples, and to let his love shine to those who are lost that they might come to know him as their personal Savior.
As Christians it is important that we are prayed up and filled up with the holy spirit, so that when trials and hardships come, others would see Christ in us and not our human weaknesses. If we are the same as the world, Christ's light is hidden or even put out. Usually it is how we handle our hardships and pain that is our greatest witness for something bigger than ourselves that lives within us, that ultimately draws others to him.
Romans Chapter 12 gives specific instruction of how to handle ourselves as Christians and to walk according to Christ and not the world, blessing those that persecute us and cursing not. Rejoicing with those that rejoice and weeping with those that weep. Patient in tribulation, continuing always in prayer, providing all things honest in the sight of all men.
May we all remember the children's song of "This Little Light of Mine" and shine bright today.
Romans Ch 15. vs. 13 " Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost."

I Stand In Awe of You!
This morning in church on our school campus a gentleman from India who works for Gideon bibles spoke about the translation of bibles into the various languages in India and its' distribution throughout the country.
He shared a story of a gentleman that received one of the bibles and read several of the stories where Jesus brought people back to life and he decided that if this was true, then he would bring his mother who died to the local church some miles away and have the church pray for her.
After a long journey with his recently deceased mom he entered the church and told the pastor of his mission. The pastor was taken aback, but promises to come back with the congregation and pray. After a day of praying with the gentleman not being willing to give up, his the mom sits up and asks where her son has brought her?
This pretty much sums up what I have experienced here in India. God's work is real to these people. They live it and believe it because they depend on it! It is not a fairy-tale or just a nice story to tell. After listening to this preacher I had to reflect to myself. Am I not one of the latter ones, with my western views and comforts that make me less than dependent on God and his word?
I must say after listening to this gentleman it caused me to reflect and to earnestly pray, reminding myself that God's word is true and with confidence I should be praying more earnestly for those on my list! God's word will not return void. He says, "We have not because we ask not".
Do you have radical faith like this man or even that the size of a mustard seed? I think the bible also calls it faith as a child. It really is too simple is it not? If God said it, I believe it and that is that! May God speak to your heart today and encourage you as he has to me, to trust him more completely and truly believe in his word and watch him perform miracles in your life and mine! May God richly bless each and everyone of you.

God Will Make A Way!
For most Psalm Chapter 23 is a well known chapter. God's promise of provision and protection, with ultimate guidance and subsequent blessing. Who would not want these blessings, but as any good parent or teacher knows they come with guidelines.
Early in the school year I would always let my students know what they could expect from me. I would establish my classroom rules and my expectations. I would then encourage them to follow these rules with the understanding that there were consequences for their choices and as their teacher I promised to be firm, fair and consistent in enforcing those rules. Ultimately the choice was theirs, so I encouraged them to choose wisely.
God made us with a free will with the ability to think and reason to make our own choices. He also sets out guidelines and provisions with promises and consequences based on our choices. We have hopefully learned that he is indeed firm, fair and consistent with his promises, even more so than the best parent or teacher tries to be.
As we all seek for justice and fairness in this world we can rest in God's promises to know that ultimately fairness will prevail, both in our lives and others. Let us look inward and make sure we are choosing wisely as God's children today and discipline ourselves to make good decisions so that we might have the confidence in his ultimate protection and blessings that he promises his children. He desires the best for us, but ultimately the choice is ours.

Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow!
Blessed with a good night's rest, a warm bed, food on the table, health, family and friends! Each day whether we realize it our not we have blessings pouring down from our Creator.
I started a brief exercise with my students, having them write down each day for this week what they were grateful for and to give something to someone else that could not be returned. What I hope they learn from this is that they are energized and happiest when being mindful of their blessings and thus creating a grateful heart and helping others.
I shared my gratitude from my recent trip to the states of how grateful I was for a warm, soft bed, with no noise. I slept forever and loved it when I had a chance to return to the states over the holidays. What I explained is that I had taken that luxury for granted until it was gone. Now that I am back in India though I asked what allows me to be happy on my hard bed when often times I am cold? I shared that as I lie in bed on these times of discomfort I think to the kids and families on the river not far from me who are sleeping on the dirt, with no beds and a modicum of blankets to keep warm. Suddenly my bed seems softer and warmer. See it all depends on my view.....
What I am trying to say is that gratitude does not come from having everything perfect or even everything we want. It comes from seeing what we have as a blessing compared to many around us.
I shared another story when growing up to my students about being told as a kid to eat everything on my plate that kids in Africa were starving. They all kinda laughed and I explained that I never really got it, but after being here I can understand better what they were trying to say.
Sometimes in life we have to go through hardships in order to see the good. My prayer is not to have to go that path, but when and if I do I know I will be a kinder, sweeter person for the journey, loving those around me with more gratitude for each day!
May you be blessed with a heart full of gratitude as you look around to all that you have and let those in your circle know how much you love them and how grateful you are to your Creator for allowing you to have another day to share with them!

I Will Follow You All of My Days
"I trust in thee oh Lord." Psalm 31. Psalm Ch. 34. "Oh love the Lord, all ye his saints for the Lord preserves the faithful and plentifully rewards the proud doer. Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord."KJV.
As I read this passage I am encouraged to get out of my comfort zone and really trust God. If we want to grow we have to stretch our wings, try new things and take risks. Trust, faith and hope really do not hold meaning if they are not put to the test. I can say I trust you, but until I am willing to put my words into action they are merely a belief or thought. I must act, jump, move, or as the scripture says be a doer.
This sure is easier to talk about than to do, but as all goals start with one step, we choose to step into the unknown to grow personally and ultimately in Christ. We understand that if we are not strong then we are in no position to help those around us in any arena, spiritually, professionally, or materially.

So get out of your comfort zone and try something new today that takes you one step closer to your God given destiny. He will take you places you have never dreamed of!

Wait Upon The Lord!
The picture of the eagle always reminds me to wait, having learned that its' ability to soar higher than all the other birds is based on their instinct to wait for the right updraft of air that will bring them higher where they are destined to fly! I do not know about you, but waiting is hard for me, yet I am gently reminded every time I see this magnificent bird!
In Psalms 25-27, just after the famous passage of "The Lord is My Shepherd", begins a prayer of trusting in God's provision in the midst of turmoil, looking to him for forgiveness and direction. Psalm 25:2, "Oh my God I trust in thee, let me not be ashamed let not my enemies triumph over me", is a chorus that goes with this verse. The chapters conclude in 27:14, "Wait on the Lord, be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart, wait I say on the Lord."
Often times this is easier said than done. The devil attacks and we panic. Things get rough and we lose hope. We look around at the storm and forget God is with us. We try and make it on our own and come up short and get stressed out. His word reminds us to keep the faith, trust, believe and yes sometimes just hold on! He promises to never leave or forsake us. Wait upon the Lord.
I am grateful and humbled by the intimate knowledge of God's constant provision and blessing. I know, that I know, that I know, no matter the circumstances he is there with us, his children. With that confidence there is a peace that passes understanding, that this world cannot give. For greater is he that is in me, than he that is in the world. He is working ALL things to good that love him. The word of the Lord.....
May God keep our hearts and minds fixed on the one true God, the author and finisher of our faith, in Jesus name I pray. Song. "Everlasting God" by Chris Tomlin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxifqtpW4H4
