You have started your race, you are on the way, but things are not going as you thought they would or should. Are you tempted to give up and settle where you are? If you answered yes, you are honest and human. I think we've all been there if we have embarked on a new task, job, skill, relationship etc. If we are in the game of "life", there are going to be set backs, stumbling blocks and disappointments. That is the result of being engaged in life!
So that brings me to what now? How do I survive the mistakes, the heartache, the disappointments and set backs? Where is my hope? Am I built on rock or sand? Matthew 7:24-27, reminds us that to build on rock, we must follow God's teachings, so that when the hardships come we will be able to stand. If we rely on our own strength, wisdom or even others', then it is the equivalent of building on sand.
The bible teaches us that hardships and persecutions will come. The question then is what do we do when they come? Do we have a plan? Do we know where to look, do we panic, run or even hide? If you are like me, the answer is yes, yes and yes! Thankfully God is patient and full of mercy. Like a loving parent, he forgives us, understands us, and is always willing to help us, if we ask.
My own daughter is finding her wings so to speak, and as a parent it is very trying. You would think based on her reactions to my suggestions, that she thinks I wished her harm. It baffles me as a parent that despite the fact that I've invested my life to support and protect her, that she would ever think that I have any intention but good for her.
Are we not like that with God. He says go here, do this and we in our stubbornness, say no, resist or even run away like Jonah. For some reason we think he means us harm? If you think like a parent, you can best understand, how could that be?
So that brings me back to my initial question, what now? We have all been there, we have lost the job, encountered unfair situations, etc. We are hit by the storms of life. What do we do now?
Like the parent to the child, our heavenly Father, loves us more than we can imagine! When we learn to surrender our will to his, we are on the way to an everlasting peace that the world does not give, even in the midst of our storms, our house will stand because it is built on solid ground.

In the Eye of a Storm
If you are from somewhere that has hurricanes you are familiar with the phrase the "eye of the storm". If not, it is a brief place of calm after the onslaught of the storm, where the winds change directions as it passes through. You see during this time if you didn't know better you would think the storm was over, you go outside and think okay I made it, but experience tells you the worst is yet to come.
You see in life we also have these storms, where things hit us and then we come to a place of calm even before everything is resolved. We are tempted to let down our guard and stay there, yet life experience says if we're to get to where we aspire, we can rest, but then we have to give that final push which often times is the hardest, to get to where we are suppose to be.
Think of child birth, the third quarter of a game, the last 100 yards of a race, the list is endless. That my friend is "life". How we handle the end of the race so to speak, determines the outcome. Many start the race, and some faster than others, but it's how we finish the race that determines our destiny.
Think about the man on the cross next to Jesus, the woman at the well, Joseph, Moses, David, Mary. This list also goes on. The bible teaches us to put our trust, faith and hope in God.
We are all on a journey, going somewhere, doing something. I read that wisdom is gained by reflection, imitation and or experience. Are we where we want to be, are we tired and wanting to give up, are we depending on ourselves, or looking to the author and finisher of our faith?
Are you crossing the red sea today, are you tired and ready to give up, are you frightened of the unknown? What helps us most in the "eye of the storm" is to keep our eye's on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. In ourselves we will get tired and discouraged, but with Jesus all things are possible, if we trust in him and keep pressing on.

Your Love Awakens Me!
The other day while walking in the neighborhood I had the pleasure of viewing some passion flowers that struck me with such awe, that I had to take a picture. Once at home, I couldn't stop looking at it and marveling at the intricacy and beauty. Then the scripture came to mind about how much God cares about us, as compared to his other earthly creations. Matthew 6:25-34.
Are you worrying about something today and wondering how it will work out? The scripture not only compares the beauty of his creation to how much more valuable we are to him, but then gives us direction in conclusion in verse 33. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you".
God is as close as your breath. He loves you more than you can imagine! Take a closer look at this flower and try to imagine how much he cares for every detail of your life!

It's All Because of You, Jesus....
How many times have we been like the 9 leopards who were cleansed in Luke 17:11, who walked away healed and did not say thank you to the one who cleansed us?
I must confess, there are so many blessings and answered prayers in my life, that I would be guilty as well, but oh what a sweet, sweet spirit that remains humble and appreciative for all that is done in their lives, both big and small!
Jesus had another encounter with a sinful woman who poured out expensive oil and washed his feet with her tears and then wiped them with her hair. The leaders were outraged at the waste, yet Jesus pointed out in a parable to whom much is forgiven, their love will be greater.
I am drawn to a humble spirit, one of brokenness and gratitude, yet I know I do not always show that appreciation outwardly for all of God's many blessings he has bestowed on me, and those in my sphere.
I recently received an update from an outreach at a Children's Home in Kodaikanal, India about how something as simple as lotion to put on their dry faces, was like gold.
Could it be that we have access to so much that we've lost appreciation for the big and little blessings in our lives, that happen all around us every day! Food, clean water, medicine, etc. the list is endless....
Lord help us to be more like the one leopard, the sinful woman and these little children with lotion, and remember to give you the praise, always......

It's Out Of My League!
My personality is one of encouragement and hope, so it is normal for me to dream big. In order to stay upbeat though, I have to intentionally seek to surround myself with positive people, readings and songs that uplift and encourage my soul to reach higher. I have also learned to set aside quiet times each day where I can hear God's voice, his whisper and peace that the world does not give.
On my recent trip, I had the luxury of watching TV, not something I have at my home, for a variety of reasons, nonetheless though it was fun to watch shows I have enjoyed in the past and see new ones that I had never watched. What became apparent very quickly though was that I had to be intentional in choosing positive, happy, uplifting shows, as opposed to negative, scary and downright mean shows. I honestly was surprised at what I found, both good and bad.
What that brings me to is the need for all of us to choose what we put into our minds, with an understanding that it will directly result in what comes out of our spirit. Just like food, we can pig out for a while, but given bad choices over a period of time will result in poor health, sooner or later.
Today I would like to encourage all of us to dream big, reach high, become compassionate about something each day. Feel good about yourself and the choices you are making to not only be the best you can be today, but to help someone else along the way.
I personally am encouraged when I hear this song below, to keep pressing on when discouraged or tired and to keep reaching for the furthest star no matter how unlikely it may seem. I hope you also find the strength you need today, to dream big and make a difference in your world!

Tell Your Heart To Beat Again....
The title to this blog is the chorus to a popular Christian song, where a surgeon does his work and yet it is not enough. He then leans over and tells the lady to tell her heart to start beating again and it does. Quite a miracle, but if like me, you have been in the hospital setting lately, or flying on a plane, one can only marvel at the wondrous advances that man has made and what we can now do, yet without belief and dependence on God, the maker of the universe, we understand we are still limited in our expertise.
God's word however promises us even more. Peace that the world does not give. A confidence and trust in our Savior, Creator, Father and Friend. He promises to hear our prayers and is working all things to the good that love him and are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.
As Christians we can have assurance, confidence that even in bad situations, even if the worst case scenario happens, that God is in control. Peace that the world cannot give as the bible puts in John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
So even when medicine, technical expertise and knowledge are at all time highs, it is still limited when compared to the Creator of the universe. Where is your eternal hope, faith and confidence today? What if today was your last breath?
As I have recently sat in waiting rooms where others' loved ones have died, and read about plane crashes where tragedy makes the headlines, I continue to offer whispered prayers of protection and guidance for them, myself and those in my sphere, who are also in similar situations. I am given a glimpse of "what ifs", yet the bible says I am to trust and not fear. In my humanness that is not possible, but through Christ all things are possible. So whether in the physical or spiritual, I am encouraged as I listen to this song and I trust you are too....

God Hears Your Prayers...
If you are like me, sometimes you have to be reminded that God does in fact hear your prayers, because he loves us and instructs us to ask, believing that we will receive. Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Just one of many verses throughout the bible.
Remember the story about the disciples on the boat when the storm arose. They feared for their lives and woke Jesus up to say we are about to capsize! Now you would think that after seeing the miracle of the loaves they would have more faith in who Jesus was, but like you and me they had a short memory, or maybe they were just a little thick!
Do you have times in your life that you remember when God has answered your prayers, or are you like others that believe God is too big to be concerned about you, so you do not ask?
The bible says faith as a child, as small as a mustard seed. You see God knows what we need before we ask, but he desires a relationship with us. He wants us to look to him and trust him. This comes about when we understand he loves us, like a parent loves their child.
Just last night the storms were passing through as predicted, and much like Jesus in the boat I was awakened abruptly, but by my beeping phone that warned of danger. As I reached for it half asleep, I prayed and asked for God's protection and to keep the storm away from us. Within minutes the lightning stopped, the winds subsided and I fell fast asleep again, knowing God had heard my prayer.
When you understand your father is the creator of the universe, and nothing is out of his control, you will confidently pray and know he hears you. Peace be still. Even the winds and rains obey his voice.
Are you asking, believing, trusting him today? I pray God will show himself real to you today and know he has you in the palm of his hand.

Grace Wins Everytime....
The sermon the other day at church was about love. A fitting topic for this time of the year, but one I often didn't fully understand, or a least didn't realize I didn't understand. As the scripture states, without love and describes all the things we can do, but without love we are nothing. 1 Corinthians 13.
When I give, help, or give my body to be burned as the scriptures say, without love, I gain nothing. How can I do these things without love was always my question for which I justified myself and thought well I'm good there, no worries.
What struck me plainer than day, just recently is the definition of what love is. Love is patient, kind, not self-seeking, boastful or proud. Keeps no record of wrongs, protects, hopes, perseveres.
Maybe like me you are saying yeah, I know that, but what are you getting at. Well for me it was looking inward and making sure my heart was pure of judgement, was not being prideful and persevering when injustice lands in my lap.
You see my strength of being stubborn and hard headed has seen me through some really tough situations, but when looking inward I recognize it is also my weakness. Am I persevering? Am I being prideful? Am I being self-seeking? It says love always hopes, always perseveres, always trusts, and keeps no record of wrongs.
Hmmm.....but for the grace of God, where would we be? Grace- unmerited love, and favor. Grace wins every time! Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HHPcRibA_A

God Is On The Move!

If you are like me, you look at bad things and question why? Not far behind that though I have learned through experience that God's hand is in it, using whatever it is for his good and those who love him, despite how it looks to me.
Our ways are not his ways. When we trust him as our Savior and Guide, his promises are real and greater than we can imagine! What looks like tragedy is only from our view, which is limited in scope.
We are finite, but understanding that God is infinite and omnipresent allows us to trust him, even when things around us do not make sense.
When you are tempted to stress and feel anxious about anything, remember this song and look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith! In time, whether in this life or the next, you will see "All things work to good to them that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose". Romans 8:28

All I Can Do, Is Say Thank You!
I cannot help but be grateful for the many blessings God has bestowed upon me and my family. His continued protection of family and friends here and around the world. His many answered prayers for those on my prayer list and many unspoken ones. I am humbled and awed by his love, as I can only try to come close to understanding his love for us, like a parent loves their child. I look at God's creation and see that all of his animals are created in a family of love and dependence, modeling his love for us.

As a parent, we can also best understand the instruction he gives us for giving thanks. Think of your own children and how we teach them to say thank you and to pray before eating. We do this because it teaches them to have a grateful heart that is appreciative for what they have and what is done for them. No parent wants a demanding, self centered child that is ungrateful. Yet that is exactly how we behave at times with God and those closest to us.
The scriptures encourage us to be thankful and "With thanksgiving let your request be known to God." We all have much to be thankful for. The young and old I enjoy being around the most are those that are appreciative for all things, little and big. Their spirit is contagious and uplifting.
Reflection.....How am I showing my gratitude today?

Great is Thy Faithfulness!
What a wonderful song and reminder of God's faithfulness, "Morning by morning new mercies I see, ALL I have needed thy hand has provided, great is the faithfulness, Lord unto me."
A thankful, grateful heart, and posture is a pleasing sight to any parent, including God. Am I grateful? Do I see the small and large things God has done for me? Honestly, not so much....without deliberate reflection and remembering his mercy!
Having lived in a city of cats in Istanbul,Turkey, it was our observation that most survived quite well on the streets, since most people fed and took care of them. We also had taken to feeding some of the ones around the apartment and occasionally would bring one in.
One day my husband brought one in to visit as it was cold outside, and he perceived it to be lonely. Well our pure-breed cat did NOT take a liking to this and trashed at my husband for bringing in the kitten, with a vengeance. Personally I thought it was hilarious, because our cat knew exactly who to blame and let him know it! He on the other hand was not too pleased with her attitude. He admonished her as if she understood, saying "You always have food and shelter, this little waif is without all the time".

Does that not describe us sometimes though? We are privileged, why? Because of God's grace and mercy, not because of anything we did. This morning's reading brings me to Micha 6:8 . What does the Lord require of thee? To do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with they God.
Hmmm.....Now this kitten did not stop purring as loud as could be the whole time she was inside. She was grateful and appreciative for the "little" things. Just a moment of warmth, food and favor. Not a lifetime, but a moment.
"To Do Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly".....but for the grace of GOD where would we be? Thought to consider. How are we showing our gratitude, today?

A New Season
We all go through frenetic seasons of our lives and adjust to the fast pace and then ultimately things slow down. We reach the mountain peak, we accomplish our goal, school is over, winter is here and we have to adjust to starting over and planting new seeds again for the next harvest.
During this time of rest, planting, reflection and slowing down, what do we do? How do we set new goals that are realistic and stay motivated to do the ordinary necessary behind the scenes tasks that are less visible, yet equally important for our success in all areas of our lives.
The ability to stay the course during our planting season requires experience and perseverance. Sometimes when we don't see the evidence of our hard work immediately, it is easy to give up, get discouraged or think we will never accomplish our dreams, and fall just short of them. Yet for a seasoned and experienced person, they know that after the planting of seeds, there will be a time of waiting, planning, maintenance and upkeep.
Surrounding ourselves with people who are further along our path can help us to stay the course. They can serve as motivation and reminders of what can and will happen if we persevere. I love it when my daughter surrounds herself with those who are stronger, more accomplished than she is, with an intrinsic understanding that she can learn from them what she is yet to encounter, and even when she wants to give up, she is encouraged to stay the course, because they are tangible proof that it can be done.
Daily steps, perseverance, even when things are difficult, boring and uneventful, with a knowing that this time will pass and what we do during this time will ultimately affect how successful we are in the next season, as Christians, professionals, students and or athletes. There is a time for every season. Ecclesiastes 3:1.
Do not be tricked, fooled or misled. Our life will reflect everything we do, even when we think it does not matter. Today is "your gift" from God. Make the most of it and accomplish all he has placed in your heart, trusting him each step of the way. Godspeed.....

Rested, Relaxed and Rejuvenated!
After a long break and time with family and friends, I am back to my routines and my own bed! Blessed with so much, my heart is filled with gratitude and thankfulness! I looked back at my post from last year at this time and feel so blessed to be provided for in supernatural ways, and grateful for another year to encourage each of you on your journey!
One of the best ways I can think of doing that is to reflect back on your own year and make a list of all the things God has done for you. When we look back we should be wowed and excited, encouraged to keep pressing on to higher goals, dreams and aspirations. Knowing God has been with us each step of the way, has the ability to spur us on to a faster pace, with increased confidence.
Just the other day I was taking my daughter to the airport in fog that limited our view. In the natural I couldn't see too far ahead, however my high tech daughter had a GPS system on her phone that she was very comfortable using. With some persuasion she convinced me to trust her and her device to go an unfamiliar route, to avoid wrecks and reach our destination on time. I cannot say I was comfortable, but I followed her leading and as a result of the success, I have now grown in my confidence.
Is that not the same way it is with Christ. He takes us through difficulties and shows us the way even when we can't see. He lovingly guides us, despite or fears and encourages us to trust him. My daughter explained to me it was a "generational gap" that allowed her to be more confident in trusting technology. I smiled with understanding. With that thought in mind, how much more is our heavenly Father trying to get us to trust him, despite the huge "wisdom gap". First Corinthians 1:25 "For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength".
My encouragement today is to keep pressing on, with a new confidence and assurance that God is on your side and he is working all things to the good of them that love him and are called according to his purpose. Start each day with a renewed sense of purpose and commit your ways to the Lord. He will take you places you've never dreamed of!

You Are Perfect In All Of Your Ways....
In the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, the young ruler who thought he had it all together and was perfect in his own eyes ran up to Jesus and says," What do I have to do to inherit eternal life"? Jesus says go and sell what you have, give to the poor and follow me. With that directive the young ruler left saddened because he had much. In his eyes he was perfect, but God saw what he was lacking, and called him out on what to do, but it was too much to ask.....
Mark 10:17 As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments, ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he said to Him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.” 21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But at these words [a]he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.
What I am proposing this Christmas is for us to learn from this young ruler's mistake and to give others a lasting gift of love by sharing our resources with the least of those around us. Instead of giving another tie, socks, shoes or some trinket that will be set on a shelf, give a gift to an orphan or a widow that otherwise would not have any gifts this Christmas in honor of that person and share the love of Christ that is lasting. The perfect gift of giving....
Won't you join me this Christmas and help shine the light of Jesus to a lost and hurting world? There are many opportunities in your community, and or around the world. A few favorite charities of mine are the Samaritans Purse, Salvation Army and World Vision. A smaller more personal project I have started is in Kodaikanal, India. Our cat's name is KC and since she was such a pivotal point in our going to India and a testimony to God's protection in our travels, I have used her initials as the acronym for the out reach. "Kodaikanal for Christ".
I challenge you this season to get involved where ever you are and make a difference with your gifts. Together we can change the world, one city at a time....

Grace Wins Every Time....
Have you ever had a chance to pay someone back for a wrong and then allow them a pass, by letting it go, allowing them to exit without a scene, or were you bent on proving that you were right and having the last word? I think if you are like me, it has taken many seasons of life to learn to let it go, even when you know you are right. Proverbs 19:11 "A person's wisdom yields patience; it is to one's glory to overlook an offense."
Somewhere along the way we learn, thankfully, that not having the last word as difficult as it may be, is often the best way for lasting friendships, marriages, and relationships with our kids, co-workers and friends. I had a good friend once say, "Ya know, as soon as I learned to say, you're right, I was wrong, I am sorry, marriage got so much easier." Of course he was half joking about how to get a long in marriage, but in reflection I think he was on to something....
My husband and I often reflect on how pleasant it is to live in a place where people answer to a higher power, whether in the states or overseas. It appears the people as a whole are kinder, quieter, compassionate, helpful, courteous on the streets, not honking and yelling, but stopping to letting you pass, holding a door open, going out of their way to help, praying before a meal whether in public or in private. What would the world look like today, if we as Christians modeled this in our homes, in the workplace, and on the roads where we drive?
God's word however takes it even a bit further. It says we are to love our enemies, and to pray for those who persecute us. Matthew 5:44. He not only gave this directive in word, he then modeled it in deed, by dying on the cross, not for anything he had done, but for us, you and me. He gave us mercy, he allowed us to escape the judgement we all deserve, he took our punishment.
Grace, it really is all about grace. Not my way, but God's amazing grace. Even as Christ prayed his final prayer, knowing he was about to endure extreme suffering he submitted his will to Gods', knowing that the temporary suffering as difficult as it was, would yield lasting fruit. "Not my will, but yours be done." Luke 22:42.
Lord, help us to reflect you in all we think, say and do. Help us to show your grace even in the face of persecution and hardship. Help us to forgive those who trespass against us, as you have so graciously forgiven us, and let your light shine, that others may see you in us and consider accepting you as their personal Savior, by how we live, in Jesus name I pray.....

Speak Life...
As a teacher, parent, colleague, wife, neighbor, etc., I have seeds that I am scattering though the words I say and the things I do. As I think about what to share with my daughter before an all important test that seems to be bigger than life to her, I am called to "speak life". It makes me more sensitive as to what I say with an understanding that it can have a profound impact on where her hope is.

As Christians are we pointing to the author and finisher of our faith in all we say and do? We all have roles in this life, but where do our words and actions point others too? Are we speaking hope and life to those around us?
I am challenged this morning to speak life. Listen and be encouraged with me in your walk today....

It's Who You Are....
Just the other day my daughter says, "Mom, I don't know what I am gonna do once I finish if I don't make it in? The road seems impossible". My encouragement to her and you is the same, keep pressing on. Don't look at your circumstances. I know God is in control and he will get you to where you need to be, so even when it looks like you can't, God can and he is making a way, his way, trust him!
I have many memorials throughout my life that encourage and fuel me to press on to the next level, when things seem impossible. I was born to an unwed mom, delivered in a home, adopted in adverse conditions, yet God intervened and provided a Godly home for me in the midst of confusion. I was saved in boating accident as a child, and spared in a potential car wreck as a young adult that should have taken my life and others, but it didn't. I was blessed with a child and should have died in child birth, but was spared. I was given a half million dollar home when I was unemployed and then blessed with a job at it's highest level in front of hundreds. I been favored in countless other homes, jobs and provided for at each step of the way. I have traveled around the world and have been given first class service, and protected even when others said there was no way. Outsiders would say I am "lucky", but my God says I am "his"!
Take time to remember all the many blessings God has done in your life. He is perfect in all of his ways! His timing, his desires, his plans! Won't ya take the next step out into the unknown, stretch your wings and trust your heavenly Father to provide as only he can.
My encouragement is don't leave anything on the table! Do you have dreams that God has placed in your heart? Are you looking at your circumstances, or trusting in your God? We are on the mission field and the finish line is in sight. It is time to sprint! My heart's cry and I hope yours is too, "Take me deeper still"!

I Will Cast My Cares On You!
Everyday we have a chance to cast our cares on God, with a knowing that he cares for us, through a regular communion that happens through our spirit. Even in times when our thoughts would say, well if he doesn't take care for this simple request, how can I trust him with my bigger needs? We then have to remind ourselves, we don't have to know the answers, we just have to trust him.
It is during these times of mental tug of war, I have learned to let go and allow him to have his perfect way, irrespective of my thoughts. Would you know, whatever it is I am praying for disappears and is resolved even without me thinking about it again. It is during that time of release and submission, with complete trust, where God has never left me.
How about you? Are you willing to truly let go and say God whatever your will, and take it to the worst conclusion that you fear the most and say even if "this" continues, I will trust you?

When we face our fears, whether big or small, with a loving God who loves us more than we can even hope or dream, we can "let go" of the outcome of any and all situations and trust in God's loving mercy for his children.
Won't you trust him today? Faith as a child is how the bible puts it.....

Just Be Held...
Ya know there are times in this life when I just don't have the answers! I go to a church service where there is a healing prayer afterwards and the obvious handicapped kid does not go, yet I am sure through the years he has been prayed for many times, even as I offer up my own prayer on his behalf, yet his life continues as it is, why? Then there are others who have prayers filled by hundreds of people as evidenced by facebook, and yet the inevitable happens, and their loved one dies.
So where does that leave us on our earthly walk with a confidence and trust that keeps us dependent on God in the midst of life's storms. How do we keep our confidence and hope on a loving God when bad things happen?
Just the other day I felt an urging to get a card and gift card for food for a particular homeless gentleman, and with the prompting proceeded to do so without really understanding how it would all work out. After purchasing it and then going to work where I would see him occasionally, yet I did not at this time, I left with a whispered prayer that God would have to help me. As I drove off and pulled around another way, no less than this gentleman was wheeling himself around the corner right where I was going to pull out. I had the chance to deliver what God had placed on my heart to give.
I share that only to say, it is the everyday little things where God continually shows up, and teaches me, reminding me that he is truly in charge of our lives and others, and hears our prayers, even when we don't understand! The bible puts it like this.
Matthew:29-30 "Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30"But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31"So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows."
So no, I do not have the answers to some of life's most difficult questions of why? What I continue to learn and am reminded of daily, is to trust God, and during those times of confusion and uncertainty to just be held....

Connecting the Dots...
How many have ever drawn one of those pictures where you follow the numbers and ultimately come up with a beautiful drawing? For a non artist like myself, I was always amazed at how what appeared to be random lines drawn across a page could manifest into something beautiful.
Is that not the same in our Christian walk. We are going along wondering what in the world is going on, when hardships and persecutions hit, but we keep moving forward trusting our heavenly Father who is making all things beautiful!
Sometimes we can see where he is going, but most of the time, we just have to trust in his promises and stand on his word, because in the natural through our vision it doesn't make sense. The night Jesus was turned over to be crucified was one of those baffling moments for his closest disciples.
Matthew 26:39 "Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
You see being carnal we have the here and now, desires of comfort before pain, prosperity before lack, but God has salvation for eternity before anything else. No there is nothing wrong with any of these earthly desires, but God's ways are so much higher than ours. He has a heavenly, eternal perspective that is oftentimes hard to see, from our view.
What IF, losing your only child meant you would see them in heaven for eternity? What IF that terminal illness was going to cause all of your children to give their lives to the Lord? What IF that eviction was really taking you away from unknown pollution that was killing your body? What IF and the list goes on and on....
I am here to remind you that God loves you and is working ALL things to the good to them that love him and are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.

Treasures In Heaven
Last month I was informed that the family I have been sponsoring below has been displaced because the shelter they were living in by the "river" was not theirs and the government has made them move. That means that even their makeshift home as it was, is no longer. The are now literally on the "streets".
With the help of the local colleague, the mom has agreed to allow her 3 youngest children to be put into a home, so that they will have access to food and shelter. She is making the ultimate sacrifice that only a parent would consider. However in order for the children to go there, they need sponsors to help pay for their support of rs 2500/month. With the exchange rate that is about $40 a month. What I am proposing, is to raise enough funds not only for these children, but other orphans and widows that are on the streets this holiday season, in Kodaikanal, India.
For the bible puts it like this in Ephesians 6:8. "Knowing whatsoever good thing any man doeth the same shall he receive of the Lord whether bond or free".
Now for us in the US. going into a orphanage or senior home would be considered a bad thing, but look at the smiles of these children as they put on their Sunday best to be considered for acceptance into this orphanage. As a mom, I can only imagine how this mom feels as she considers this path for her own children.
Would you consider sponsoring a child or widow this holiday season for a life changing gift of just $40 a month?
James 1:27 "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world".
My personal email is ckskrmetta@yahoo.com for additional financial information and sponsorship.

Growing Stronger...
Have you ever been in a situation where you saw no way out and things were difficult if not impossible in your own strength? Well I would dare say if we were honest that most would say yes, at least at some point in our lives. What is interesting to me is that while overseas I experienced that more than ever in my life and constantly found myself developing a total trust in God for everything, mainly because I had no options. Now that I am back in the states it is only when stretching myself intentionally, that I encounter those moments or opportunities of what I now see as faith building.
In talking with my daughter and my students at school, they are often asked to take risks and learn something new, and not give up when it is difficult, even though it would be much easier to quit or make excuses. My observation and encouragement is for those who are able to stand in the "fire" so to speak, is that something happens. Their fears begin to disappear as they see glimmers of success and are encouraged to keep trying. They learn that maybe that can do it after all, and with perseverance and determination, eventually they do see success, and with that they grow stronger in their resiliency and confidence.
Is is not the same as Christians? God asks that we trust him, yet when we are faced with difficulties we begin to fear, make excuses and look for a way out, but if we can stand the test of "fire", we will see God show up, and as a result grow stronger in our walk with Christ, because of our difficulty where he was our only hope and he showed himself true, once again.
When we depend on Christ daily, and look to him, we are working our spiritual muscles and over time they will become stronger, but if we don't they will become soft and flabby. The bible puts it like this. If salt has lost it's flavor, of what use is it. If we put our light under a table, who benefits? Luke 14:34 and Luke 11:33.
I pray that when you are in the "fire", you will be encouraged to stay the course and have your faith strengthened as Christ shows up and proves himself to be faithful, and stand in the gap for your loved ones and those around you when they are weak, encouraging them to trust and believe on God's promises, even when it seems impossible.....

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus!
The other day I had the unfortunate need to go to a dentist, as many of you may be able to relate, it was not something I wished to do, but a need that was pressing based on a back molar that showed outward signs of decay, yet thankfully was not hurting.
Now overseas, when pressed with an aching tooth, I prayed extra hard. There was no way I was going to a dentist with the primitive equipment they had, and would you know God heard my prayer. I was healed of any pain and allowed the fortune of not having to go.
Now that I am back in the US and blessed with dental insurance at my new job, I know I must address the obvious, before it becomes a major issue. So with much anxiety, if I am being honest, I prayed and started a blanket search for a dentist close by. With a lot of closed doors because dentists don't appear to work on Fridays or Mondays, I turned to my colleague and asked who he used? With that I had success, and now I had a known dentist with a great reputation, and proceeded to make an appointment.
As it turns out there was an opening the next day and coverage for my missed classes were minimal, so off I went. It also turned out that it was really close to where I live, so the road was getting smoother, so to speak, though my desire was not. Anxiety was quick to jump in, but prayer for peace and calm for me, was continually given.
Once in the doctor's office I was attended to with familiarity and ease. The doctor took pictures as I prayed for wisdom and discernment for his diagnosis. After several x-rays he showed me his thoughts on the screen and why he would recommend an extraction, stating that anyone trying to save it would be playing "herodontics", I had to smile, with appreciation for his guidance and wisdom.
So next he referred me to a specialist in the complex for the extraction saying, "He could, but without any more expense I could have a specialist do it." So much to my surprise I walked next door and due to a cancellation within minutes, I had another expert opinion who confirmed indeed it would not make sense to repair it, and that having an implant didn't make sense either, based on my other teeth.
Now I don't know about your experiences, but this was huge to me. Not only was I given front row service, that if given an option I may not have returned, until I was forced to that is, but I was consistently given advice that was contrary to what was in the best interest of the experts I was seeking! I could see God's hand of favor and direction at every step!
Next was the really hard part for me though, setting up the actual appointment, but low and behold there was an opening the very next day and with little hesitation I accepted and with prescription in hand, I proceed to local drug store to get it filled, and within minutes was heading back to work. Wow, that was way too easy....Thank you Jesus!
The next day anxiety started to set in again, so I prayed and asked for personal calm, favor and continued wisdom for the doctor as he performed the surgery. I arrived early and filled out the necessary paper work that warned me of all the complications etc. for which I had to whisper prayers again for calm, and just signed without reading further since it was causing my anxieties to rise on the "what ifs".....
Once in the chair, early I might add, I was greeted and within minutes given the numbing shots and work began immediately much to my surprise. The doctor talked to me and explained how he would take it apart in pieces, taking out the filling first and then take each nerve out separately to try to avoid disturbing the sinuses it was so close to. Whispered prayers continue, as he began. He says, "Nerve one out, nerve two, now for nerve three", and with a little finesse he has a very long nerve three and he is finished! He checked for sinus holes and confirms all is well.
Within 15 minutes from numbing to release I am done! I said a huge thank you to Jesus! Wow! If that wasn't a miracle I haven't seen one! I think all involved were a bit surprised at the ease and comfort I felt as I walked out. Oh did I mention, from beginning to end it was only $67. Yup you can say a huge amen for me there too!
Maybe you are not going to a dentist, but have your own personal anxieties that are unique to you. I would encourage you to bring it to Jesus. I have done many things in my life, including going to dentists, without the thought to pray, but I have learned through the years, that if we take everything to the Lord in prayer, he promises to hear us and be with us.
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
I pray that you learn sooner than me, and cast all your cares upon Christ and trust him to provide in ways that only he can!

Praise Report....
On my prayer list naturally enough, are prayers of divine guidance, protection and favor for my daughter in her studies and friendships at school. She has embarked on a journey of graduate school with hopes of increasing her chances of getting into a dental school after she completes her studies. Best case scenario, because of timing of applications etc. she would need to sit out a year, with hopes of getting into dental school, providing she excelled in all of her scores and on her entrance exam.
Well just yesterday she texted me and gave me an update on a practice interview she decided to do with a visiting college for dental school. She reported that the interview went fine and much to her surprise the associate dean of this very prestigious dental school invited her to apply for next year asap with her current scores and assured her she would be accepted without further testing, provided she does well in her current studies this quarter. To say she was just given a major fast pass would be an understatement! She now has the hope and encouragement that she was lacking only days before!
Folks God knows what we need and when we need it. He is making a way and setting up the pieces of the puzzle even when hardships would discourage us and say it is impossible! I pray you are encouraged to keep moving towards your intended outcome even when hit with difficulties, and trust in a living God who loves you more than you can imagine!
God's direction and promises. Proverbs 5-7. …"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.…

Growing in Christ
Having recently moved to a new city, we were looking for a new church home and have tried several along the way. What the process has made clear to me is, I am not looking for a place to be fed primarily, but I am looking for a place to serve, in a meaningful way.
That process reminded me of a story where a lady learned CPR and then found herself in the midst of an accident scene for which she used her newfound skills and put her head between her knees to keep herself from passing out, but she was unable, or did not think to use her abilities to help anyone else.
In the bible it puts it like this. Hebrews 5:12-14. 12. "For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil".
Are we not the same as Christians? All of us can help someone who is behind us, no matter our walk or growth in Christ. Won't you consider your opportunities today, to help that someone that needs your wisdom and guidance?

We are all somewhere on the spectrum of our growth as Christians. All of us have the ability to help someone else with what we have learned as Christians, yet many of us will get paralyzed with the idea that we have to be perfect before we can act, or we have to know everything before we can help, or we are inwardly focused on our own needs to the exclusion of others.
The other day I asked one of my students in a one-on-one conversation if he could take a pill and know things about his future and things that would help him, would he take it? He hesitated like that was not possible, but I explained that all of his teachers had varying degrees of experience, who had already been down the road he was yet to take, and could offer him some practical wisdom that would in fact help him to see further down the road, beyond his own view.
Are we not the same as Christians? All of us can help someone who is behind us, no matter our walk or growth in Christ. Won't you consider your opportunities today, to help that someone that needs your wisdom and guidance?
Godspeed......

Here and Now.....
So many times in life we get caught up in the tomorrows, whether it is a vacation, weekend, special holiday, wedding or job etc. We are on a treadmill going through the motions, with a sense of urgency to get to the next spot, without enjoying where we are.
The bible puts it like this. "This is the day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!" Psalm 118:24. We are on God's scene today, for a higher purpose than this moment, yet it is this moment that we are given.
Our highest calling in life is not about us, and we will never have fulfillment in satisfying our own wants and desires, but rather using our gifts and talents to help others along our path, where God has placed us, this very moment.
So I ask that we consider the here and now, with a bigger understanding that the here and now is fleeting, and we are made with a purpose that only we can do today, and when that moment is gone, it will not return.
Lord open our eyes to the world in which we live, that we may live life fully, here and now.....

Heaven's View...
The other day we received word that a recent colleague that worked at the school where I currently teach, was mercilessly murdered while attempting to help the less fortunate in Nepal. The initial thoughts were, what a waste of such a young life, a sweet spirit, a giving soul. Maybe with more forethought she could have avoided this situation and truthfully, maybe so, but let's take a look at heaven's potential view....
Now this young lady was an art teacher by profession, and the person who murdered her brutally was also a teacher in Nepal. Could it be that Dahlia's life was a sacrifice for countless children, by losing her own life she has likely saved hundreds of children in this poverty stricken area, because this evil person will no longer be allowed to be around other helpless, vulnerable children? Could it be that God sent his special angel, to save his children in Nepal?
As a parent, of a daughter close in age, I would never wish to sacrifice my own in such a way and would warn of all the dangers in doing what Dahlia did, but from heaven's view, perhaps she was called and answered that calling deep within her soul.....without even fully understanding herself.
John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends".....
We may never understand everything on this side of heaven, but I pray for healing and comfort to Dahlia's family and friends during this time of personal loss, here on earth.

I Will Cast My Cares on You!
Each day is a chance for us to grow in our walk with Christ as a result of casting our "cares" on him, or become stressed at not being able to control our circumstances. As I was talking to my daughter the other day, I explained our hardships are a way of making us better, if we allow ourselves to stay in the "fire", of discomfort and address the issues that are difficult, trusting in God to see us through and teach us how to become more like him.
When we learn to cast our cares on Jesus, we are letting go of the outcome and trusting him to care for us in a loving way. If you had good parents this is easier, but if not, it may take some positive experiences to teach you to trust in your loving, heavenly Father.
There are times in this life, whether young or old that we will face injustice, hardships, hurt and disillusionment. How we handle those circumstances will speak volumes to where our hope is. I pray this day you will be encouraged to cast your cares on the one who loves you the most!
Psalm 55:22: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vc9pEb-Ej7U

He Knows.....
As a parent, I am grateful to be a Christian first, because when I am prone to worry, I can pray about whatever it is and be peaceful in otherwise uncertain conditions. The other day my daughter told me, who is away at grad school by herself for the first time, that her boyfriend of a year or so had kinda broken up with her. As a parent I was concerned with her being alone, and so far away, with few friends close by. Well I texted to check in on her last night, and she said she had locked herself out of her apartment, but that a new classmate close by had taken her to another new friend's house to spend the night.
As a mom I said a huge thank you! Not that my daughter had locked herself out, but that through that mishap, God was able to surround her with friends, so she wasn't alone. An answer to a mother's prayer...
Yes, God knows how to direct our footsteps, even in our difficulties. Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."
Matthew 6:26, "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows" (Matthew 10:29–31).
